Convincing day for Colombo stocks – now at all time high

A very ‘convincing’ day was how analysts described the Colombo bourse on Friday, as it hit an all time high, while drawing contributions from both retailers and high networth investors investing in shares across the board. “Today was a very convincing day as there were contributions from all corners and all sectors of the market,”

Lanka ranked second in stock market performances

Sri Lanka has been ranked second in stock market performances this year, South Korea based Samsung Securities said today. Russia topped the list as its benchmark index jumped 121 percent this year, a sharp turnaround from a 72.4 percent drop in 2008. Sri Lanka came in second with a 114.6 percent growth, followed by Argentina at 105.1 percent and Brazil at 84.6 percent, China at 79.8 percent and India at 79.1 percent.

Today's market, Wait and see sentiment

To day market close flat. T/O 254Mn While CIC few bulks (500000/ 200000/ 200000)traded at 55 probably Raj's. Dial, JKH and NDB actively traded.
Today is the day that two important announcements came that likely effect to the market, Gen. Sarath Fonseka's decision and the Election. But both doesn't make a considerable impact on the market while investers are act like "wait and see" approach on this regard. May be on thought of what big fish think on this change or are we waiting till everything get settled.

Agrclutural Boost in north and East

The opening of the North and East areas for economic activities will expand the agricultural markets tremendously following the defeat of terrorism. The farmers in the North and East that contributed to a bumper harvest prior to the 1980s can look forward to a good future, Past President of the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association, Mario Alwis said. He was addressing a media briefing in connection with the Profoods/Propack 2010 exhibition scheduled to be held at the BMICH from August 20-22, 2010.

CSE records highest ever annual turnover

The Colombo Stock Exchange today recorded the highest annual turnover of Rs.115.2 Billion surpassing the previous highest of Rs.114.6 Billion recorded in 2005.
