Today's market, Wait and see sentiment

To day market close flat. T/O 254Mn While CIC few bulks (500000/ 200000/ 200000)traded at 55 probably Raj's. Dial, JKH and NDB actively traded.
Today is the day that two important announcements came that likely effect to the market, Gen. Sarath Fonseka's decision and the Election. But both doesn't make a considerable impact on the market while investers are act like "wait and see" approach on this regard. May be on thought of what big fish think on this change or are we waiting till everything get settled.

Agrclutural Boost in north and East

The opening of the North and East areas for economic activities will expand the agricultural markets tremendously following the defeat of terrorism. The farmers in the North and East that contributed to a bumper harvest prior to the 1980s can look forward to a good future, Past President of the Sri Lanka Food Processors Association, Mario Alwis said. He was addressing a media briefing in connection with the Profoods/Propack 2010 exhibition scheduled to be held at the BMICH from August 20-22, 2010.

Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa would be the only candidate of the Government at the Presidential Election. Minister added that there would be no one to challenge President Rajapaksa.

Colombo market turned around on Wednesday after several days of losing on improved investor sentiment hovering on selected stocks, brokers said. Dialog back to profit..

Dialog Telekom PLC, Sri Lanka’s biggest mobile phone company, on Wednesday reported profit gains versus an earlier negative balance, saying third quarter post-tax profit totaled Rs 313 million against a negative Rs 5 million in the 2008 quarter.

This could make a positive impact to stock market as well since this is top capitalize share in stock exchange.

President vs Sarath F.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has said that if CDS General Sarath Fonseka submitted his resignation from the post with the intention of contesting the upcoming Presidential election, he would accept it immediately. President has made this comment while having a casual conversation with a few Senior Ministers and journalists after the “Janahamuwa” programme.


Strike strike

A united Sri Lankan opposition on Tuesday put its weight behind state sector trade unions which are going on a five-day work-to-rule in their push for higher pay.

State power, water, oil and port workers will not work outside assigned duties and set working hours from Wednesday after negotiations broke down as the government tries to slash spending to meet the terms of an IMF loan deal.
